Bred For: Herding reindeer
The Finnish Lapphund is an ancient and versatile herding breed known for its friendly, intelligent, and agile nature. Originally bred to herd reindeer in Lapland, these dogs have a robust build and a thick, dense coat that insulates them against harsh, cold climates. They are highly trainable and excel in various roles, including tracking, therapy, and search and rescue. With their quick reflexes and strong "startle reflex," Finnish Lapphunds are adept at navigating challenging environments. They are also devoted and sociable, making them excellent family pets. Despite their courageous spirit, they are not aggressive and are generally good-natured.
