Cirneco dell’Etna
The Cirneco dell'Etna is an Italian breed of hunting dog originating from the island of Sicily, specifically around the area of Mount Etna. Known for its keen sense of sight and agility, this sighthound is primarily used for hunting small game such as rabbits. Its origins are ancient, with depictions appearing on coins minted in Sicily as far back as 500 B.C., suggesting its arrival with the Phoenicians. Despite the claim of antiquity, formal recognition and organized breeding efforts were established later, with the breed officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2015.
