Braque du Bourbonnais
The Braque du Bourbonnais is an ancient French gundog breed known for its rustic appearance and distinctive characteristics. With a history that dates back to the Renaissance, this breed has undergone significant challenges, including near extinction after World War II due to selective breeding that prioritized secondary traits over hunting capabilities. Revitalized in the 1970s by Michel Comte, who sought out mixed-breed dogs with Bourbonnais blood, the breed has since thrived in field trials and has gained popularity worldwide, particularly in France and the United States. Known for their good temper, intelligence, and loyalty, Braque du Bourbonnais dogs are both excellent companions and skilled hunters.
