Shikoku
The Shikoku dog is a Japanese breed known for its loyalty, intelligence, and versatility. Originally used by traditional hunters in Japan for hunting and tracking wild beasts, this breed excels in agility and endurance. With a strong prey drive, Shikokos are not suitable for households with small pets unless they are raised together. They are generally reserved and aloof towards strangers but affectionate with their owners. Strong early socialization and consistent training are essential to manage their protective instincts and ensure they interact well with children and other animals. Their eager-to-please nature makes them trainable, but they can be stubborn at times.
